Another one of my “greatest hits”. Well, I like it, anyway. An example of how you can find stories anywhere.

Also, I think the story itself is worth sharing, and I wasn’t sharing with many people back in the earliest days when it first went up.

Dreams of the Shining Horizon

As I say on my About page, I’ve always loved the Stories. But here’s the thing about the Stories: they don’t stop. Call it a blessing, call it a curse – I can look at the most unlikely thing and build a story out of it. For example, I’ve built an entire mythos out of Meat Loaf album covers. It’s true. Let me show you what I mean:

Meat Loaf Bat Out Of Hell Newspaper Ad

Meat Loaf’s Paradise By The Dashboard Light is one of those songs everyone knows, and almost everyone loves.  Like many classic rock songs (and can I just take a moment to be horrified that a song that came out a year after I was born now counts as classic rock?), it’s an institution as much as a song in itself.  Meat Loaf made at least three videos for it, from the classic proto-video at the very beginning of the art form:

Found Stories: Meat Loaf’s “Razor’s Edge”

This video was made in 1983.  I would have guessed a few years later, but I could have told you that it was made in the Eighties for two reasons: 1) Meat Loaf’s (relative) youth, and 2) the fact that the Critical Secret Information is recorded on a cassette tape.  How many of you out there reading this blog even remember when cassette tapes were in common use to record and play music?  I remember when they were used for computer memory.  That’s right.  I’ve played video games on media that had less memory than that necessary to contain even one of the videos in this blog post.
