Christmas Sleigh Ride Is Up At Smashwords!

Sleigh Ride With Title

You think you know him. You don’t. He is so much older than you think. He has worn many masks and many names down the ages. But not matter how many masks he wears, no matter how many names we give him, how many roles he takes, he remembers the time before the ages began. And he remembers his first duty.

In the darkest part of winter, he rides out to carry the light across the world.

That’s the intro to Christmas Sleigh Ride, my own little Christmas story, now available at Smashwords for free.  Now of course, since this is me we’re talking about, there’s a little twist.  Some of you may already have guessed it.  Some of you will figure it out right away.  Some, I may actually manage to surprise.  Wherever you fit in…check it out.

Songs of the Season

Holidays are about tradition. Sharing time with friends and family, surrounding yourselves with the sounds and smells and warm memories of holidays past.

Last year, about this time, I shared a post containing all the Christmas songs that really meant something to me. I’d like to share that with you again.

Also, Red Molly and I are going to a show by Trans-Siberian Orchestra today with my sister, and it seems like sharing a bit of music with you would be a good way to celebrate.

Unlike last year, this won’t be my last post before I head home for Christmas. One more interesting bit of news to come. Stay tuned…

Dreams of the Shining Horizon

Season’s greetings, all!

I’m going home for Christmas this year (actually, two homes – I’m visiting Red Molly’s folks on the 26th and staying until the 29th), so I’m going to be a bit out of touch for the next week.  The Hometown posts have been scheduled to go up at their regular times, but otherwise, I’m afraid I won’t be around.

So, since this is effectively my Christmas post, I’d like to invite y’all to join me in a little celebration.  Let’s have a few Christmas carols.

First, let’s have a few of the novelty songs that have made me laugh or smile over the years:

Next, let’s have a bit of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra.  Because Christmas is still a little bit pagan, still a little bit Yule, still a little bit about making light and music to drive back the cold and dark.

The next one is…well, it…

XKCD: Tradition

XKCD - Tradition

Bet you never thought of it that way, did you?  I honestly don’t know what this country is going to do with itself once its current purpose of catering to the Baby Boomers 24/7 is finally completed.

Aaaand I’m Back

Hey, all.

I know it’s been a while.  I didn’t get a chance to do much work over Thanksgiving, and I’ve been struggling to catch up since.  And I gotta be honest, Christmas is going to be even worse.

To tell the truth, this weekend hasn’t been a whole lot better, at least in terms of getting work done.  College Sweetheart got married yesterday, and Red Molly and I were in attendance.

(As I said in my Facebook post yesterday: “Attending my ex-wife’s wedding with my fiancée. My life is strange, but at least I’m on good terms with all of the women in it.”)

It was a nice ceremony and a great party.  Join me in wishing them all the best.

Still, all excuses given, I must confess the real reason that things are so slow around here: I just have too many irons in the fire.  My day job has become busier than it ever was when I was a temp (which is a good sign, I suppose), and I have so many writing projects going on that I just can’t do all of them justice.

So I’m afraid things are going to change a bit here around the Horizon.  Oh, there will still be Horizon Reviews and Real-Life Chillers and plenty of other nifty stuff (I’ve got a few interesting things planned for the next couple weeks, in fact), but things are going to slow down quite a bit .

(“I thought you said things were changing, Matt,” I hear you say.  Everybody’s a critic.)

The reason things will be slowing down is that I’m going to be shifting my focus to the fiction I’m trying to produce for sale.  By the same token, I’m going to start taking down some of the stories in my archive and replacing them with teasers and links.  Sorry folks, just trying to make it as a professional.

Stay tuned.
