4.5 Degrees

XKCD - 4.5 Degrees

A picture is worth a thousand words, and as always, XKCD is able to communicate a great deal from very little picture.

One of the “arguments” you hear most often from Climate Change deniers is: “Sure is cold this winter…so much for climate change!”

What they don’t realize is that – as the cartoon illustrates – it only takes a very small change to be catastrophic, if that small change affects the entire planetary system. And yet, from day to day, a 4.5 degree difference doesn’t feel that different. Winter is still cold.

(And even then, some people can still tell the difference.)

But it’s still a problem – a big one, and getting bigger.
